By 1888 there were three armies in the new Austro-Hungarian Empire; The Regular (KuK), the KK Landwehr and the Hungarian Honved. Huge organizational changes were also made including conscription and the creation of All-Arms Divisions based on the German model. In matters of uniform, the infantry’s white coats were gone, replaced by blue and all the cavalry wore red trousers. Ruhl’s plates while very general and somewhat imprecise, give an excellent all round view of the Austro-Hungarian armed forces of the period.
