Flying Spitfires from the squadrons formation, the 131 flew Spitfire I, II, V and IX, and participated in all the operations of Fighter Command until March 1944. At this point, the 131 was retrofitted with the rare Spitfire VII, and performed escort missions and patrols at high altitudes. The squadron was finally disbanded on 31 December 1945.
