The early setback of a hurricane in October 1780 delayed his plans and sent his fleet back to Havana to refit. Finally Galvez, with a force of 7,800 arrived off Pensacola and began the siege in March of 1781. Outnumbered more than five to one, the heroic British resistance was eventually overcome in May. The illustrations by the Spanish artists José Bueno and Lull, commissioned by the late Bob Cowan, provide a wonderful pictorial account of the Spanish and colonial forces of the time. This is an essential volume to complete any collection on the uniforms of the War of Independence.
