New book, CN7511, 52 pages, 153 color photos, 4 color plates, 1/35 scale plans. The M113 was originally designed as an Armored Personal Carrier (APC) in the late 1950s. Since the time the series production of the vehicle started in 1960, more than 80,000 M113 and M113-based vehicles have been built. The M113's evolution has seen three major upgrading programs, and the end of its service life is not yet known. By 1990, most nations originally fielding the M113 as an APC had abandoned the vehicle in this role and either replaced the M113 with a new combat vehicle or with an M113-based vehicle such as the Armored Infantry Fighting Vehicle (AIFV). However, most of these nations still fielded the M113 in countless variants such as command post vehicles, mortar carriers, and anti-tank weapon platforms, etc. The M113 is used in more than 40 major variants and is in service with more than 50 nations. This book focuses on the M113 family of vehicles used in the 1990s. Carl Schulze selected from his huge archive of M113 photos and put together this first volume book featuring American, Canadian, German, Danish and Norwegian M113 and variants operating during the 1990s. Of interesting note are Canadian M113 TUA, German M548GA1 Skorpion and M113GA1 RATAC, Danish M92, Norwegian NM135 and NM142. The four color plates feature the US M113A3 in OIF, Canadian M113 TUA, German Skorpion and Danish M92. There is a 4-view M113 line drawings in 1/35 scale for the modelers.
