Description: New book, 127 pages, 240+ photos, many in colour. Over the years, nothing has identified the colonial soldier more than his sun helmet. This was especially true for the British 'Tommy' of the Victorian Era. The Sun helmet, variously known as the pith helmet or topi, was not limited to soldiers of the Crown. A number of countries, many of whom were members of the British Commonwealth but also countries with no historical ties or political allegiance to Britain wore sun helmets of one pattern or another. The authors, who previously co-authored Military Sun Helmets of the World, have brought together a remarkable sampling of "Wolseleys" from around the world. Working primarily from their own comprehensive collections they have located additional rare examples for inclusion as well as contemporary photographs of the helmet in wear. Combined, this photographic study offers the collector the first reference dedicated to this unique item of headdress.
